This piece of art has been handmade in traditional I carving hand-carved by artisans in Agra, the city of the Taj Mahal, also famous for stone carving and inlay-work handicrafts.

Intricate process

Stone slivers are carefully shaped into minute petals, leaves, and stems on a manually operated emery wheel. Often, a single flower is composed of as many as 40 pieces that may take a whole week to painstakingly shape and inlay. The craftsman matches the shapes to a brass template.
